Heavy Traffic in Cities  - What to do ?

The city dwellers are increasing more and more day by day due to which a road traffic also increasing day by day.   Say some around 30 years back in all most all the cities except Mumbai and Delhi there was no heavy rush on roads.  I remember very well a long ago i.e.  it was in 1995 when i was going to college for my intermediate studies in one of the Govt colleges in Hyderabad my mode of transport was an RTC bus.  It was not that difficult for me to get into the bus after wait of 10 or 15 minutes at bus stand and getting seat immediately after getting into the bus was also not a big deal as he bus was less crowded.  The commuters in city buses was in those days on an average as the population of the city is also not that much as it is now.  So my young days when i was studying went smooth though the public transport was not widely available those days and it was sufficient for the population at that time.  

Scene Change.

Now in this digital era and in he globalized generation it is different.  Though the public transport is widely available in almost all the cities in India, still it is not sufficient for the heavy population.  Especially in Metro Cities most of the Public transport vehicles are over crowded during the peak hours.   So for a peaceful journey to anywhere may it be to office or for business and even for social events people opting to commute by their own vehicles.    So as a result,  more and more vehicles are coming on roads daily which increasing vehicular traffic on roads and resulting in heavy traffic jams.

Causes of Heavy Rush

In Indian Cities , all the schools, institutions, offices software companies and govt. organisations  start working right from morning 8am to evening 6pm strategy.   But in Chine which also heavily populated like India or say more than india and in  other western countries have different or flexible/shift timings may it be the schools or offices.      In Europe most of the organisations and offices start working from 6 in the morning.    So there is a distribution of crowd accordingly.  

Solution

if the public is ready to change their mindset and adopt different methods like working on shift timings like in China and Western Countries govt is ready to extend support and change the working methods and pattern.  Suggested methods include:  Office Goers willing to start working early morning around 6am till 2pm and also there can be change in schools timings from the 8am to 3.30 pm concept to half day schools.  

Introduction of Mini Buses like recently Telangana Transport Corporation introduced Vajra mini buses on pilot project basis.  The present TSRTC buses are not suitable for the present day traffic.  In Delhi , DTC run small and mini buses for easy movement in the heavy traffic.
